Cairns Indigenous Art Fair CIAF 2019

Now in its tenth year, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) is gearing up for an even bigger celebration of Indigenous Australian culture at the heart of Cairns for all ages, backgrounds and tastes.

Set to return over four whole days, the brand new 2019 program will take over the Cairns CBD with heaps of exciting entertainment for all the family, which will involve free and ticketed live music and cultural performances, outdoor art, a diverse spread of market stalls plus an assortment of hands-on workshops, art demonstrations and more.

Cairns Indigenous Art Fair will begin with a bang with its 2019 Opening Night Celebration at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal – a spectacular waterfront party where you’ll get the first glimpse of the Art Fair and its 2019 theme, “My Yarn Now”, along with an explosive entertainment program that will include Black Image, Mau Pau, The Briscoe Sisters, Constantina Bush and Sean Choolburra, ending with fireworks on the waterfront.

Following the Opening Night Celebration, CIAF 2019 will kickstart the main event with markets, workshops and a string of live music and cultural dance performances – all to be held in multiple locations around the Cairns CBD. The Art Fair will showcase work from 13 Indigenous art centres across Queensland – at the same time, the Art Market will feature more than 40 stalls selling colourful arts and crafts from Queensland’s best Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, Lake Streets and the Main Stage at Corner Wharf will have a variety of family-friendly cultural entertainment spread throughout the event, along with a handful of fun art-based workshops for all ages, inspired by the people and culture of tropical Far North Queensland. On its final day, the CIAF 2019 Closing Ceremony will send off another year with more live music, more cultural dance performances and an unforgettable evening fireworks display.

Cairns Indigenous Art Fair is celebrating its 10th anniversary this 2019 – its biggest and best event yet. Make sure to be in Cairns for CIAF 2019, taking place July 11 to July 14.

2019 Cairns Show

Just a few days after Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, the excitement will continue with the 2019 Cairns Show – a historical Cairns event with lots to see and do over three full days.

The first-ever Cairns Show was held in 1981 and has since continued throughout the decades to become one of the biggest annual events in Cairns for agriculture, regional exhibitors and family-friendly entertainment of all kinds. The Cairns Show attracts over 70,000 visitors each year, with something that all backgrounds can relate to and enjoy. This July, it’s back for another celebration of everything that’s special about Cairns and the surrounding areas in Far North Queensland.

The 2019 Cairns Show program is as exciting as ever, featuring numerous animal displays and events, scarecrow and wood chop competitions, food demonstrations, fairground attractions, market stalls and more – along with a broad selection of exhibitors from around Australia selling everything from local produce to arts and crafts.

Come along to see a handful of cattle breeds alongside poultry, goats, dogs and the region’s finest horses, which will be taking part in numerous equestrian events at the Cairns Post Main Arena. Marvel at Australia’s top competitors at the crowd-favourite Wood Chop Competition, then take the chance to see scarecrows of all shapes and sizes with the Scarecrow Competition at Horticulture Pavilion. There will be even more entertainment – plus good food – at the Hot Ten Sideshow Alley, which will have fun kids’ rides and games for all ages.

Also, this year, make sure to be on the lookout for the Cairns Show Showbags, which will be on sale around the event with fun prizes to be found inside.

If you’re looking to experience Cairns to its full, Cairns Show is a fantastic insight into the local community and culture, complete with exciting agricultural entertainment, good food, kids rides and a huge list of exhibitors to browse and get to know.

Cairns Show 2019 will be held at the Cairns Showgrounds from July 17 to July 19.
